The population of Spain is over 47 million.  The number of inhabitants is growing because of positive natural growth and immigration.
The population density in Spain is 91 inhabitants per square kilometer.  The coastal areas and islands have more population than inland provinces, with the exception of Madrid.
The active population includes people who are the legal working age and able to work.  The inactive population includes people who are not of legal working age, people who are ill and people who do not earn a salary.
In Spain, the percentage of the active population working in each sector varies:
Primary Sector: 5%
Secondary Sector: 30%
Tertiary Sector: 65%
The tertiary sector generates the most wealth.
